This accession consists of records documenting the activities of the National Portrait Gallery (NPG) during the tenure of Director Marc Pachter (2000-2007), but also includes records from the tenures of Directors Charles Nagel (1964-1969), Marvin S. Sadik (1969-1981), and Alan Maxwell Fern (1982-2000). Topics covered include cultural affairs, exhibitions, legislation, strategic planning, the Patent Office Building, budget, donors, management, education, and grants. The records also document NPG's interactions with other Smithsonian Institution (SI) bureaus, professional associations, and museums. A small portion of the records predate the formation of NPG. Materials include correspondence; memoranda; budget records; grant proposals; color photographs and negatives; black-and-white photographs and negatives; brochures; reports; resumes; VHS tapes; and clippings. This accession consists of information relating to the National Museum of African Art (NMAfA) Commission meetings and its members. Materials include correspondence, memoranda, agendas, meeting minutes, brochures, color photographs, black and white photographs, and obituaries.

This accession consists of the personal papers of Lisa Taylor, Director, Smithsonian Associates (TSA), 1966-1968, and Director, Cooper-Hewitt Museum (CHM), 1969-1987. These materials document her personal correspondence and professional activities as well as her transition from TSA to CHM and the administration of CHM. Materials include correspondence, memoranda, postcards, photographs, invitations, clippings, reports, brochures, newsletters, and related materials. Also included are several manuscripts related to the exhibition "Disegno: Italian Renaissance Drawings and Design for the Decorative Arts" (1997) which were added to the materials after Taylor's death.

This accession includes the correspondence of Warren M. Robbins, Director, 1979-1983; Sylvia H. Williams, Director, 1983-1996; Roslyn A. Walker, Director, 1997-2002; and Sharon F. Patton, Director, 2003-2008. The records consist of correspondence with museums, educational institutions, professional societies, corporations, foundations, and individuals in the field of African art and related studies. Materials also include photographs, newspaper clippings, postcards, photographs, and slides. Some materials are in electronic format.

This accession consists of records documenting the search for directors of both the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden (HMSG) and the National Museum of African Art (NMAfA). A small amount of material also documents administrative issues at HMSG. Materials include correspondence, memoranda, proposals, position descriptions, reports, press releases, notes, and background information about the museums and previous searches for directors. Some materials were created within the Office of the Under Secretary for Art (2004-2008) and other predecessor units.
