The Ohio EPA was formed October 23, 1972, as the regulatory agency for environmental protection. The basic mission of the agency is the enhancement and protection of Ohio's environment for the benefit of human health and welfare. The Ohio Environmental Education Fund (OEEF) was created by the General Assembly in 1990 to raise the consciousness of Ohioans about environmental issues. The general public, the regulated community, and students from preschool through university and their teachers are the three groups that OEEF projects are intended to target. The money used to fund each grant is derived from one-half of civil penalties collected from violations of Ohio's air and water pollution control regulations
